Introducing: Daniel Karner

By November 3, 2017Art, Studio, Team

I’m delighted to introduce to you one of the earliest members of the Carrots team. Daniel is a curious phenomenon. Although originating from Stuttgart’s countryside, he has learned to grasp surprisingly complex technological matters. Thus, through his expertise in electronics and his mastery of 3D modeling, he is considered a higher being in his home village. Want to convince yourself? Then check out the following interview, and his portfolio.

Who are you and what do you do at Chasing Carrots?
Hi, I’m Daniel and I’m a 3D-Artist at Chasing Carrots. My main tasks are modeling, texturing and lighting. In a nutshell, I’m creating the 3D in-game content in collaboration with Chantal.

What did you do before Chasing Carrots?
I worked as a 3D-Generalist at a Stuttgart based VFX/CGI company creating high poly assets and renderings.

Your first gaming device?
My first gaming device was an IBM-AT Model 5170 (80286, 8MHz, 20MB hard drive) I got from my dad for Christmas in 1990.

What was your first gaming experience?
The first game I ever played was Accolades ‘Grand Prix Circuit’ from 1988.As a kid, I was blown away by the graphics and the ‘gameplay’ but this experience was soon exceeded by Jordan Mechner’s Prince Of Persia. Still, a great game even though it’s nearly 30 years old!

What kind of games do you like?
I love old point&click adventures, text adventures as well as modern shooters or puzzle games like ‘The Witness’ or ‘Talos Principle’ but I’m also a huge fan of survival horror games.

What are your all-time favorite games- / series?
– Sierra & Lucasfilm Games
– The Legend of Kyrandia Book I
– Civilisation
– BioShock
– Alien Isolation
– Player’s Unknown Battleground

What’s your craziest hobby?
I’m collecting old game boxes from the 80s and 90s and in my spare time, I’m also doing ‘justforfun’ high poly 3D renderings and electronics.

Who or what is your favorite band/music?
I love movie scores! Ennio Morricone, Jerry Goldsmith, Henry Mancini, John Berry, just to name a few of them but I’m open to all kinds of music. I also love Motörhead, Modern Talking, Bodycount, Rise Against, Kraftwerk, ABBA, The Prodigy, WIZO, Cypress Hill and Udo Jürgens! 🙂

If you could be a game character, you would be…?
The Prince of Persia
