Introducing: Mara Mehlitz

By October 2, 2018March 20th, 2023Development, Games

While our former Producer Josef was curious to work in bigger teams, for bigger projects, Mara chose the other way round. She left Luxembourg and a big publisher to get a taste of the indie side of life. Welcome, Mara!

Read along to get to know our new Carrot a little bit more.
Who are you and what do you do at Chasing Carrots?
I’m Mara, Producer at Chasing Carrots. My face is the front people may see first when doing anything with us, be it business to business or public, marketing, PR or in the Community. Also, I do some project management, keep the overview on what happens and help the team organizing.

What did you do before Chasing Carrots?
I was Producer & Product Manager for MMORPGs at the side of a publisher rather than a developer and did there similar stuff like at Chasing Carrots. But since the role of the company and the type of games differ it’s quite a new experience with a lot of smaller changes for myself.

What kind of games do you like?
I play and like a lot, but my favorite type of games: Management, RPGs, Coop, and turn-based stuff. I also loved MMORPGs, but there aren’t so many good ones out there anymore. Outside of those genres, I play Rocket League – I’m not very good but it’s fun!

What was your first gaming experience?
I started with PC, Game Boy, and SNES. Roller Coaster Tycoon, Simcity, Civilization, Secret of Mana, Gothic, Mario Kart, Tetris etc. My clearest memories are about playing transport tycoon on the PC I got from my father where I spent countless hours. I found my love for isometric games and management games with that title. With the SNES and all those RPGs available for that console, I found into Roleplaying Games. I played through Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Mystic Quest, Terranigma, Illusion of Time several times and had a lot of fun while doing so.

What are your all-time favorite games?
Rocket League – I’m at over 1000 hours on steam, a rarity for me, I just keep enjoying playing an hour after work every day.
Mario Kart – I played every title so far, but my favorite is Double Dash on the Game Cube and the Wii. I played online with friends a lot and I was pretty good.
Civilization – I started with Civ 2 on my old pc, rediscovered the game with Civ 5 and since then I keep playing it over and over. My love is to roleplay the Civs I get randomly.

If you could be a game character, you would be…?
Some kind of unnamed hero, strolling around the world and forgetting the main quest since I tend to help every poor soul out there and have many different interests of which I hardly master any. But it’s fun and I enjoy life.
